# Energy Market Communication

> One API for what a balance responsible party exchanges with the market, from schedule to settlement.

Every balance responsible party (BRP) exchanges messages with the market around each delivery day, and so does a supplier that acts as its own BRP. Before the day, you tell the TSO what you plan to deliver. After the day, the market tells you what you actually delivered and what it came to. Each market does this in its own formats and to its own deadlines. Engrate gives you one API for all of it.

## One delivery day

**1. Nominate: send your schedule**

Before delivery, send the TSO your planned energy per quarter-hour. Engrate delivers it in the market's own format and tracks each version until the TSO confirms it. See [Schedules](https://docs.engrate.io/products/schedule-management.md) and the [schedule lifecycle](https://docs.engrate.io/api-reference/schedule-management/schedule-lifecycle.md).

**2. Settle: read what the market allocated**

After delivery, the market works out how much energy each of your accounting points used or produced, per settlement period. Engrate collects these allocated volumes, including every later correction. See [Allocations](https://docs.engrate.io/products/allocations.md).

**3. Settle: follow settlement**

The market settles the difference between what you scheduled and what was allocated. In Germany, follow the MaBiS deadlines, energy volumes and reBAP prices for your balance group. See [Settlement](https://docs.engrate.io/products/settlement-management.md).

## Markets

| Capability | Germany | Netherlands |
| - | - | - |
| [Schedules](https://docs.engrate.io/products/schedule-management.md) | 50Hertz, Amprion, TenneT DE, TransnetBW | TenneT NL |
| [Allocations](https://docs.engrate.io/products/allocations.md) (alpha) | Per accounting point and aggregated | Per accounting point |
| [Settlement](https://docs.engrate.io/products/settlement-management.md) | MaBiS | |

The API is the same in each market. Only the market's own rules differ, such as identifiers and deadlines.

## Get started

1. Create an API key in the [console](https://console.engrate.io). See [Authentication](https://docs.engrate.io/guides/authentication.md).
2. We connect your organization to each market you operate in. Until then, creating a schedule returns `404 Organization is not configured`, and lists of schedules and allocations come back empty.
3. Send your first schedule. See the [schedule lifecycle](https://docs.engrate.io/api-reference/schedule-management/schedule-lifecycle.md).
