Every electricity market has the same tasks. For example, one party receives your schedule and another party operates the grid that your customers connect to. Each market gives these tasks to its own parties and uses its own names for them. Engrate uses the roles and areas of the Harmonised Electricity Market Role Model from ENTSO-E. Because of this, a role or an area has the same meaning in all markets.

Roles

  • Balance responsible party (BRP): is financially responsible for the balance of a portfolio and sends schedules.
  • Scheduling Area Responsible: receives your schedules, matches them against the schedules of your counterparties and confirms the values that it will use.
  • Supplier: supplies energy to the customers at accounting points.
  • Grid operator: operates the grid that an accounting point connects to. It sends the master data of the accounting point and decides on supplier switches.
You can be a BRP, a supplier or both. Engrate communicates with the market for you with your own market identity.

Areas

  • Scheduling area: the area that you send a schedule for.
  • Control area: the area that one transmission system operator balances.
  • Metering grid area: the part of a grid in which the market settles metered energy.
The Core API lists the parties and areas of each market with their identifiers.
